My very first radio was an S-38. It is always a pleasure to relive those glorious days of "real radios!" You are to be congratulated on your ongoing quest to keep those days alive.

Your book is a treasure trove of information for the fan of Hallicrafter radios and your new web site a welcome addition to the information available on the internet. I would also like to thank you for including the BoatAnchor Manual Archive in your links! The BAMA project was started because of my interest in Hallicrafter radios but now is devoted to any and all tube-type amateur radio gear.

I enjoyed the museum. Fantastic collection. I put together a S-119 kit when I was in the 7th grade. Still have it. I bought a SX-28A with the intention of getting my ham ticket in 1961. Still have it but no ham ticket. Maybe someday. I bought a few more Hallicrafters radios, seven in all.

Awesome! I've had a life-long interest in radio. As a youth I logged over 200 stations on the AM band using a 4-tube Teletone that my great aunt gave me. Always wished for a Hallicrafters SW set and finally acquired a used S-20 some thirty years ago. Have recently purchased an SX-100 via eBay. Hope to obtain a Ham license to provide some entertainment during retirement. Great site!

proud owner of a 1949 model s-40a. this receiver was purchased in 1949 as a gift from my father to my grandfather. in december of 1955 this receiver was under flood waters from the feather river in yuba city, california, for 26 days. after a dry-out and replacement of some capacitors that had been damaged it worked like new. it's sitting on my desk and there are still water marks and traces of river silt, but these don't "muddy up" the reception.

Hi Chuck. I have about 30 pieces of Halli gear. It works well for me and I am amazed at how low maintenance it is. My HT 37 just conked out after 18 years of uninterrupted service. My other Hallicrafters gear seems to be made of the same stuff. I really like it. I call the Vintage Sideband Net, usually with HT 37, HT 32 or SR 150. I have really found your book to be one of my favorites. I was first licensed in 1962 and started with an SX-25 back then. I used an SR-2000 as a Navy MARS Operator (N0RTR) back in '68. Today I still have an S-19R, S-20R, SX-24, SX-25, and an SX-28A. I've collected a number of other classic receivers such as a National HRO, Collins R-388, R-390A, etc. but my favorite SWL receiver is the SX-28A. Thanks for taking the time to create this web page. Hi Chuck..... I started my Ham Career 51 years ago with a HT-17 and a S-53. I compare calling CQ with that "rock bound" transmitter to going fishing with one worm. It was a challange to find anyone answering my call on the S-53 and the rather short vertical antenna I was using. I still have the old rig and coils. 73/jim

Very demoralizing. I just brought a S20R from Goodwill and was feeling pretty good about the radio's condition until I looked into your museum. Much work to do!

My dad was an engineer for E.F. Johnsons in Waseca during the 50's so I was spoiled with "cast-offs" such as Rangers and Valiants, Collins RX's, etc. Didn't save a single one. Sigh.

Keep up the great work and congratulations on the outstanding collection.

My first decent receiver was an SX-25 which I bought at a garage sale in the mid-60's (with PM-23 & 1952 ARRL handbook) for $25! Numerous Hallicrafter items now share my home. Your work has been indispensible. Your equipment list and both editions of your book have been used as references regularly and frequently over the years. Not only are they valuable resources, they remain good reading, over and over again. Thanks Chuck and best wishes for continued success!

Fun site! I have been a Hallicrafters enthusiast for decades. Ran the famous HT-32B/SX-115/HT-33B trio for years. What a signal! THAT was a real ham rig, all 352 lbs. of it!

Looks like you have quite a collection

I used to own an S-85, which I regretfully sold some years ago. Chuck, I'd like to congratulate you on "Radios by Hallicrafters". It's the DEFINATIVE book for any Hallicrafters collector and a joy for anyone interested in antique radios and/or creations of beauty. I return to it's pages again and again. EXCELLENT!

Super collection. I starte with a s-38 back in 1946 and over the years have used many Hallicrafters units. At present I run sx-101 and Ht-32 most every day. These units get greaty reports and to most every one sound as gud as modern units. The ht-32 keys as good as any thing on the air. Hallicrafters built some very good gear and am pleased you have so much preserved. Keep up the good work. 73, George, K7DU

The radio that really started me into the ham radio hobby was a Hallicrafters S-29. I still have many fond memories of that radio, and I wish I had not sold it. I really admire your work, Chuck, and I wish you continued success. Sincerely, John, W8QA

Great hallicrafters collection that I have ever seen. As a new collector of H-radios I found the most factual information on the Webb site and the H-book I bought. Keep writing on this subject.

I am now the proud owener of a SX-100 and S-119 both in nearly new condition. Without reading Chuck Dachis's new book I migh not have found the wonderful radios.

Chuck: Have been a fan of yours for years. I have your earlier book. I recall that you helped me with a problem several years ago. BTW, I aquired an SX-100 which would fade out after several minutes. Turned out to be a broken pin inside the tube socket (not the first I've seen)on the mixer. Repaired by taking another pin out of another socket. Keep up the great service that you're doing!! Ed

My first radio rx was an S-38. When I went overseas in the 50's I traded it to Hal Yeager. (The other Yeager.) About two years ago I contacted him in Huston and he said he still had it. It now sits in my ham shack. Looks just like it did when I used it as W5EOU. Love ur website.
